MBP burnt my leg!

I've had this mbp for at least 3 months now and it runs so hot. Right now the fans are at 4000rpm and the enclosure bottom is 97f, the memory bank is 126f and I've only had it on for an hour or so. I can barely keep it in my lap! Is this a normal temperature? No one I know has a laptop that runs this hot whether it be a mac or pc. Is there anyone at apple I could contact? It's really ridiculous. I need this for college, how am I supposed to write my papers if I can't keep it in my lap?! I'm using smc fan control but it doesn't seem to help much. Any ideas guys (and girls)?
 
this is old news, and is why apple refuses to call them 'laptops' anymore.

put a book between your lap and the computer, it keeps the computer cooler and keeps you from burning yourself.
 
The tempurature had to be 97 degrees C, not F. Your body is 98.6F, so how on earth was 97F going to burn you?

I would write a letter to Apple and tell them you're being burnt. Be sure that you write in the letter that you're "suffering." That's one of those buzz words that makes companies cringe.

well it went down but it was originally at like 126 and its in Fahrenheit...it hit like 130 when the fans were at 2000rpm and then when I put them to 4000 the temp went back down

well its nothing major, but it hurt like hell and my leg is red. i'm going to college and need to be able to touch a freakin laptop without breaking a sweat or getting burnt


p.s. this is my first mac
 
it's ridiculous to ask for a new one - it won't solve the 'problem', it's not even technically a problem and it will be the same with all of them no matter how many new ones you get.

apple already say not to use it on your lap as do most manufacturers; even my 12" pb gets too hot to comfortably use it on my lap without a book or laptop sleeve under it.

Bummer....as now, you have less pressure on Apple.


Sadly, you may have to live with it. Maybe take it into a local Apple Store, when its nice and hot, to see if its a "problem"(by Apple stance) or not.
 
Lmao at 126F burning your leg. Get tougher skin then because 126 is not even close to being hot. My notebook is usually at 140+ and It doesn't even make my skin red.
 
I can't believe that guys are still letting their MB/MBP shimmy on their laps. It will get hot, can mess up your swimmers.:eek:

OK, mine is on my lap but I'm wearing shorts and I'm not doing much other than running Safari and writing this, AND, I got the AC running.
Is the room hot where you are? If you have to have it on your lap, try to cool the room, use a cooling pad, limit CPU intensive activities.

True, and I'm upset about the noise my tibook makes, but hey it's an inch thin and sounds like a hurricane running Word :rolleyes:
 
They don't use desks anymore in college? Even in lecture halls I remember they had those fold out desks.
 
It's a combination of the aluminum conducting the heat, Apple wanting a really quiet portable (not laptop), the insulation of your legs, and your processor intensive work. I tend to just put mine on my desk, or just on top of it's sleeve for portable use.
 
Do a search on heatsink and thermal paste in the MBP's You will find that APPLE uses a ton of paste that actually heats things up more then actually helps. I've read of a couple of daring souls who opened up their MBP and cleaned off the thermal paste to replace it with some better thermal paste and it reduced the running temp of their machines by quite a bit.

power block heat

How hot should the powerblock be getting? I find that it is beyond hot to the touch. I understand it should be somewhat hot, but this is ridiculous

My TiBook barely ever got really warm. My MBP (before some modifications) could have burned me easily (90 C +). The old PPC laptops were cooler for sure.
