Hi, I have a MBP and recently I started hearing this buzzing when it is not connected to an outlet. So if I am running it on battery I hear this not loud, a faint buzz but none the less distracting. Does this happen with anyone elses computers? The buzzing when not in an outlet and is this normal? BTW this is a refurbished model. Thanks - James!

same here. i actually put up a post on this yesterday too. i have a feeling it might be something to do with the logic board. i'm kinda uneasy about it because my iBook had the same problem last year and it exploded during an important meeting. and i'm not kidding. let me digress. it exploded. pop. boom. white smoke and black smoke out of the usb drives. i was pissed. needless to say.

Very early MBP's had an inverter whine which changed with the level of the backlight. This was resolved pretty quickly.
The rest of us were left with the classic whine which you're hearing. You'll probably find that when the machine's busy under load, the whine becomes quieter or intermittent.
I've got used to mine, to the point where I no longer really notice it. Within the past couple of weeks, Apple have acknowleged the problem, and current logic boards do not suffer from the whine. If you can be without your machine for a few days, AppleCare will swap out your logic board for one of the new revisions.
Personally, I can't have mine go away for a while, so I'm living with the whine. However, I have contacted AppleCare to let them know I've got the whine. I'll probably get the board replaced before I sell it on.

At first I had no idea where it was coming from, but later I certainly knew.
In my case the fan on the top right section of my keyboard (right above the power button) started making that noise and it grew to be louder and more aggresive.
God, now I have to bring it in and get the logic board repaired AND the bottom casing was damaged whn I just got it, like someone tried to pry it open on the lip right above the button to open. Sigh, so far this MacBook Pro hasnt been that great. I am dissapointed to say the least.
