Dear all Mac Owners!

I just received yesterday my first MAC ever! Im very lucky with it! Amazing machine, fast and very stylish!

WOW!

BUT:
Although they installed the newest and most efficient mobile processor, my CPU freq isnt changing. CoreDuoTemp shows me nearly the whole day 2.17GHz.

Im not using any high perf. applikations at the moment, and just surfing the web and learn how to use my new Mac. The CPU usage is about 0 - 10 %.
It doesnt change anything if i plug the power cord or change options in the energy saver settings. All three options results in the same CPU freq.

pmset -g cat tells me that the dsp option isnt available (maybe this is only PPC architecture ??)

Tiger:/Users/pete root# pmset -g cap
Capabilities for AC Power:
displaysleep
disksleep
sleep
womp
acwake
autorestart
lidwake
halfdim
sms

I think i wont need my 2. GHz for surfing the web and reading... so ill save CPU Power and im not going to "abuse" my fans.

any recommendations? Other guys have the same problem?

cheers Tayler

You know what CoreDuoTemp displays. You don't know what frequency your CPU is running at.

Put it on longest battery life.

Then try it out.
Ya i did so. Nothing changed. What is actually the lowest cpu freq the cpu can use??

2.17? which model do you have? the 2.33 or the 2.16?
LOL, ya i got the uber cpu.
No, CoreDuoTemp seems to round ==> ive the 2.16

My temp is 40C idle.
What did C2Temp shows you? Does it change often? What is the minimum that coreduotemp shows you?

You know what CoreDuoTemp displays. You don't know what frequency your CPU is running at.
Any other applications available? Like CPUZ or CBi for Windows?
The clock is sometimes, very rare, altering to 1.67GHz. So my guess is that C2T is reporting correctly.

EDIT: Idle temps at 45C. 40C were direct after sleep mode.

After the 10.4.8 upgrade coreduotemp have stopped functioning properly, at least on my mbp. It (almost) always show me running at max frequency. It's wrong, as my mbp becomes extremely hot when it does so. You are probably experiencing the same thing.
Try downloading ministat2, a widget that among other things also reports the cpu temp. It works, and you'll see that the cpu frequency changes depending on the work load.

thx @ NJuul

ministat2 shows unfortunatly always 2.2GHz either with cord plugged in or without using the highest "energy saving profile".

Whats your lowest clock, that ministat2 shows you?

Edit: Are your fans spinning always too? Slow but they are, everytime for me.

Dang. On my Rev A MBP Coreduotemp almost always shows it running at 1.83 (max), while according to ministat2, it cycles between 1 and 1.83, depending on load. Maybe the sensors are different on the C2D... It's rather strange if it really aren't throttling the cpu.
