Hey guys-

Recently I had the distinct pleasure of working on a freelance job and my employers rented me a 17" C2D MBP preloaded with Windows XP via Bootcamp. Now, aside from my former years growing up with a Power Mac 7100/66AV (yes, a whopping 66 mhz), I've had no interaction with Macs. In fact, 99% of the time I was working on the rented computer I was running it on the Windows side.

So, that said, I'm a computer animator and I'm in need of a laptop. Can anyone on this forum who uses Maya on their Macbook Pro vouch for the speediness of the program either in OSX or in XP/Vista on the MBP? I'm almost sold on the amazingness of this laptop, but I need to know that it has staying power. I don't want to upgrade for at least 3 years or so.

How big a deal is screen real estate on the 15" monitor compared to the 17" in Maya? The 17" seemed like plenty of room, but it was a bit bulky to carry.

Also - I know Leopard is coming out soon. Should I wait? What about for the LCD backlit monitors? Is that a make or break feature I should hold out on.

Any fellow animator (or non-animator) guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I use cinema 4D and modo on my 15" powerbook 1.67Ghz, and personally I cant wait for the new 17" MBP (Leopard, LED LCD, new case etc) but I am going to wait because I just know 15 days after buying one it will have a major upgrade :)

I have dabbled with Maya and it ran OK and I bet that now its a universal binary it flies on the intel chips.
