the last few days ive had serious problems connecting with my router and internet.

sometimes i get the router but not the internet / and vice-a-versa.

i phoned my provider and they say they havent dont anything but theyve raised a fault and looking into it.

but today twice - i lost wifi connection with my router... then when i opened my 'internet connect' app and the wifi connection comes back online straight away...?? why could this be? coincidence - not the way i saw it.

and im getting seriously flakey internet connection.... slow, fast and dead...slow, dead, dead, slow, fast

i dont know whats going on..... its weird and annoying.

i also have a macbook which sometimes maintains connection with router/internet whent he mbp doesnt...

this is my first real wifi/internet connection problem in 5-6 years - damn!

im keeping my internet connect app open for the time being and see what happens.

It could be the router failing... Have you tried getting the wireless network broadcast on a different channel? When the router goes out, does power cycling it always bring it back? Power cycling the router means unplugging it from the power for a minute or so before plugging it back in. :)

I experienced a similar issue with an old 802.11b D-Link router (624+). At first I thought it was my Time Warner Cable Connection. However, I didn't experience the problems when connecting directly to the cable modem nor to the router using an ethernet cable.

If I had WEP turned on I wasn't even able to connect to the wireless router.
Turning on Interference Robustness and disabling WEP seemed to help with pulling an IP address but the wireless connection was insanely unstable. The connection would consistently timeout when trying to load websites or just plain stop in the middle of a file download.

Eventually I just said "screw this" and bought a newer 802.11G/B router. It worked PERFECTLY out of the box. By the way, have you tried testing using another wireless enabled laptop?

There's a known airport (driver) problem at least in 10.4.10 update, atleast the Apple TechSpecialist said so...they're working with a fix for it...but don't know when they are going to get it ready.

Some users have got the problem somehow fixed with running the Combo update to 10.4.10 from apples site.

For me it seemed to fix the connection pretty well...i had lot of problems with Airport and Extreme base station. My connection was sloppy and laggy all the time, but after i ran the Combo update and the 10.4.10 v1.1 update from apples site, the speed increased dramatically, didn't have those connection breaks much though...
