I just got mine a few minutes ago, a little nervous about the whole thing after reading so much negative posts. I do hear a faint electrical "buzzing", not sure if this is the infamous "sound" or what I can do to remove it. I'll wait and see what else this surprises me with.

Anyway, how satisfied are you with your MacBook Pro?

Love it. Haven't regretted buying it yet and I've had it for a little while now. There is the buzzing noise that can be fixed but it only happens sometimes and usually I'm listening to music and won't notice it either way. It's just amazing and so impressive. I love showing it off to my friends. :D

It's a great computer no doubt but I voted satisfied because I think it does have some flaws, a couple of them major ones. I love this computer tons though, but I wouldn't call it perfect either. I prefer to look upon it with a critical eye

It's amazingly quiet. It's extremely fast. The battery life is plenty (3 hours is just fine for what I do). The keyboard is great. The trackpad is great. The screen is brilliant.

All in all, I'm impressed. :D

my macbook (not pro) has it too. It's annoying, but there are several ways you can deal with it.
1) return it
2) have them try to repair it. There are some reports of MBPs getting new main logic boards that correct the problem.
3) use a bluetooth mouse and/or keyboard. This stops it.
4) install IOUSBFamily.kext 2.4.6 and then use the photobooth or mirror widget hacks. (Meaning launch photobooth and then force quit it. The whining stays gone even when photobooth is closed, and you do not lose battery life. However, they broke this with the keyboard update which is why you need to use the older version of IOUSBFamily.kext.)

I'd like to add that i too am having the heat issue... it's very hot underneath, hotter than my acer travelmate 8204 which was known to have some heating issues.

Is the macbook having these same issues or should I simply goto the apple store to get this corrected (i live close by)

Hmm, 57% are very satisfied, however there is also a 43% chance that %random new switcher% will buy a MBP and end up wishing he or she were never born...

Update: After one day of receiving my Macbook pro, I left it at the apple store for a logic board replacement. The rep was very helpful and told me that the logic board replacement "reduces but does not eliminate the sound". He also told me that some sound was "normal".

I decided to out my ear next to every MBP in the store as well as the MBP at CompUSA and oddly enough, they ALL had the 'buzzing' noise I hear from the upper left hand side of the keyboard.

Hmm...

Well, I'd say only five somewhat-to-very unhappy customers out of the 40 that have responded so far is pretty good.

Regardless, I have a first-off-the-line 17", and I'm all kinds of happy with it. Nothing at all to complain about.

And if I lay my ear on the left speaker near the power input port, I suppose there is a slight buzz sound, but I've never even been able to hear it from a sitting position, regardless of how quiet the room is. I'm sure some of them are actually unpleasantly noisy, but I'd recommend not going nuts trying to find every odd little noise your MBP makes--electronics make noise--it's a fact of life. Every Windows computer I've ever used, laptop or desktop, has made varying amounts of noise, every Mac I've used has made noise of some kind if I listened hard enough.

The same can be said of my TV, my DVD player, my VCR. Heck, I've heard HP scientific calculators that make a FAR louder whine than my 17" laptop here.

The rep may have been helpful, but he was also incompetent. The newest revision of the MBP logic board (the one which requires 10.4.7 and is supplied with a new set of install media) will completely eliminate the CPU whine.

I got it yesterday morning and so far its wonderful! Sure, it has a quiet whine and gets extremely hot, but that doesn't really bother me. After all, my desktop roars compared to the sound on this thing, and about the heat, I don't use it on my lap and I don't plan on resting my hand near the top left of the keyboard...I can't beleive people see this as such a huge issue. It's much easier to live with than, for example, my previous MacBook which was warped and of much lower build quality (oh and supposedly this is because 'the plastics on each MacBook fit a bit differently' ), not to mention the MacBook gave me 3 kernal panics in less than a week and was starting to stain.

Overall, HIGHLY recommended over a MacBook.

Extremely Satisfied

I do have the Whine problems but they are easily fixed with the mirror widget solution. Heat problems Eh... not bad at all. it hovers around 64C but i never use it on my lap anyways.

Pretty satisfied. The machine is beautiful, runs quickly and all but the heat is just unbearable when running many apps. I found that putting your energy settings to better energy savings makes the MBP run cooler but when you're doing multiple calculations on better performance, it heats up quite a bit.
