MBP dying already?

So I bought my MBP 2.4Ghz just last week, and since then I've noticed a significant decrease in speed. The dock and other animations are choppy and shutdown is taking much longer. After skimming the GeekBench thread and finding the average score for my model to be around 3200, I decided to benchmark my own machine. It got a 1127 -- barely faster than my old G4 . What could have caused this, and what actions should I take to remedy it?

I did upgrade my memory to a GeIL 4GB kit -- compatible by specification and also user reviews, though I do wonder as GeIL also sells a separate line of memory chips labeled specifically for Mac.

put your old RAM back in and see if that remedies your problem.

Yeah, sounds like bad RAM perhaps. Insert your install/restore DVD and restart holding down the "D" key and run the hardware test. I think that system profiler might also be able to show bad RAM. If it is, replace it. If it isn't the RAM, repair disk permissions and the disk as well from disk utility on the install/restore disk ("C" key during boot up to go into the DVD). If none of this works, call Apple. If they don't help, e-mail sjobs@mac.com or something. There, all my knowledge of how to fix things

Found the problem. A few days ago I stowed my battery in the fridge as I was not using it. Ran CoreDuoTemp this morning and found my CPUs clocking at 1.33Ghz instead of 2.4Ghz. Poo Apple. Apparently this is a "feature" of Apple notebooks nowadays to prevent overdrawing from the AC adapter.

So here's the plan... retrofit a higher amped AC adapter onto a magsafe connector and flash the Mac's SMC firmware. It's failsafe
