MBP entering safe sleep overnight

I have a new SR MBP. I usually leave it plugged in overnight, because I have it set to backup with SuperDuper! during the wee hours. Usually, in the mornings, I find that it has entered safe sleep. It also usually freezes when it comes out of safe sleep and must be restart. (I suspect it has something to do with the third-party screen saver I'm using).

I don't remember enabling any setting regarding safe sleep, so is it normal for a MBP to enter safe sleep overnight?

P.S. My energy saver preferences are set to sleep after three hours and sleep the hard drive when possible.

What's the difference between sleep and safe sleep ? I've never heard of safe sleep before.

Safe Sleep is like hibernation where the machine is turned off and the ram is dumped into a file, and then restored.

I suggest downloading InsomniaX or one of the other programs that do this, and disable Hibernation/SafeSleep, obviously this may not be the best way but hopefully will stop it
