hey,

am expecting my 160GB/2GB Macbook Pro on Monday, and am looking at various HD options. I will be mainly editing HDV in Final Cut Pro, using Adobe CS2, After Effects, basically the usual suspects for low budget film-making.

Basically I can go for any number of FW800 drives out there, will most likely be a Lacie d2 500GB/1TB, or i could get the new Lacie d2 eSata II 500GB, which would mean i would have to purchase a Sata ExpressCard/34, adding a good £90 to the overall price. Main disadvantage i can see of a Sata drive is less chance of hooking up to other computers, but at the moment it's not a major issue.

But will i see much difference in performance? not just editing, but general usage?

Also does anyone know a cheaper alternative in the UK to the Sonnet Tempo Sata ExpressCard? the only thing i can find is the SABRENT SATA-EXC2 ExpressCard which would be perfect, but is unavailable in the UK, i'm going to the US in 2 weeks, but if i could get it here in the UK it would be better.

so FW800 vs Sata II - worth the extra effort? :)
