I recently installed Windows 7 via bootcamp on my late 2010 MBP and fired up 'Rift'. Even with low graphics settings, the fan on the MBP is very loud and it's running quiet hot.

I'm used to some fan activity with WoW (in Mac OS) but not to this level.

Should I be confident the MBP is just doing it's job and it will be fine, even if the fan is whirling away all the time? I play with the MBP on a desk. No fans under it or anything like that.

I appreciate this question may seem ridiculous but I just get nervous when the fan is going crazy. I appreciate the MBP isn't a "gaming machine" before anyone tells me. :) Thanks.

It should be fine as long as its below 100c, but if its in high 90 to 100+ than the lifespan of your mbp could be reduced. Anyways its hot because of a poor application of thermal paste, which seems to be a common problem. If you applied it yourself or took it to apple store than your temps would be considerably lower and fans would be quieter.

besides the speculation.... the fan is supposed to spin up fast to counter heat. Be worried if its hot and the fans aren't loud... loud fans when gaming is very common.
