MBP for iMac i3? Should I do it?

Quick question:

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro, 2.53 GHz Intel i5 with the 256MB NVIDA card and I'm selling it to a friend. I need something with a larger screen for image editing. The resolution on the 27" iMac is mind blowing, so that's probably going to be my replacement.

My question is: Will I be fine with the i3, or should I really invest in the i5 processor? Also I'll probably be upgrading the graphics to the 1GB instead of the 512MB card, isn't confirmed yet. The most intensive programs I'll be running is probably photoshop and aperture.

So I know I SHOULD upgrade just to be safe, but I'm also a poor college student...so...pinching pennies everywhere I can.

The i3 in the iMac will be faster than the i5 you previously had in your MBP. If I were you, I'd keep the i3 and save the money.

Now, for photo editing with Photoshop, no gaming whatsoever, will the 512MB of VRAM be sufficient or should I go ahead and upgrade the graphics for lovely performance? Because that card is already a lot better than my MBP's card correct?

I'm not really sure how the video card plays into Photoshop, etc ... but I do know the 512MB card will be better than the one you had previously. However, you might want to consider the upgrade since we're talking about a 27" iMac.
