MBP getting hot

Hello all, I just got my MBP 2.0 in today. I got the glossy screen, and I think it looks great. I don't see any of the problems that others have listed, except that this "laptop" gets HOT when charging. But if I unplugged it from the charger, it cools down alot. Other than that one problem, I'm one very happy camper. I'll post pic later if I can make myself stop playing with Photobooth.

how's your hardware test going? my first MBP gets hot and when i performed hardware test, one error occur. My second MBP just warm and it passed the hardware test

Mine was incredibly hot the first day but it's much better now. No complaints from me. Photobooth is awesome. It amused me for a good 30 minutes earlier. I love this backlit keyboard! Never seen one lit up before tonnight!

What if steve said that the macbook getting hot was an extra feature: An iLap Heater....for us Northerners, this will come in handy in the winter.

Congrats on the MBP purchase Whats this hardware test? I got 1.83Ghz MBP..when running on battery i get idle temps from 50-54C and Power Adapter use takes it to 64C When touching the casing I don't feel the heat that much(nothin which can burn ur skin lols).. But 64C is way too hot theoretically..I have a watercooled AMD 64 3800+ Dual processor rig running @ 32C lols.

My mom has a more powerful dell, but same size, which is much much cooler. I think you'd get burned if you were video editing or doing something else processor intensive if it was on your bare legs

I posted this in another thread, but for the MBP owners i think its worth mentioning. Especially because we see these threads so often. For the original poster, have you ever used a tibook? My friend has a 1g tibook and that is definately the hottest laptop i have ever felt in my entire life. So we can see that Apple has sold hotter laptops in the past. The mbp is not the hottest. If the tibooks are still running strong (his is) then you will be fine.

Let me guess, the power adapter is plugged in?

Running off the battery right now and doing more or less the same as you. I am getting between 43-45°C.

How do you measure temps on MBP? I've tried iStat Nano but it doesn't show temps. I've got a desktop fan blowing under the iCurve so my MBP, ext HDD and me stay cool

You can either use a program called CoreDuoTemp or Temperature Monitor but you need the latest firmware update installed before they report the correct temperature.

I have to disagree. I havn't ran any temp test, but when playing video and surfing the net, while charging, you can't pick this laptop up from the bottom becaue it will burn you if you hold it for more than 30 seconds, and i'm not just bs'ing you. I've noticed that it runs a little cooler once the charger is unplugged or if i'm only surfing.

I never place notebooks on my lap anyway, but still, this might cause problems with the notebook in the future.

dude, thats sounds way too hot... I hold mine all day
