Has anyone seen the difference between the glossy and matte screen MacBook Pro. I will be working a fair amount outside in the summer as thats half the point of having a laptop. On the other hand, I am a student web designer/videographer so the glossy screen sounds the business.

Any ideas?

If you're going to be doing a lot of work out than you MUST get a matte screen. The reflections you'll encounter outdoors with a glossy screen, especially on a very sunny day will drive you crazy.

Working outside is a no-brainer for getting the matte screen. You will have too much glare.

Working in design is also a no-brainer for getting the matte screen as you want true color representation, not something artificial/glossy that makes it look different.

matte. glossy has a huge glare and as stated before the colors are more accurate onthe matte. i do like the glossy for movie watching though......

glossy is great and nice and bright, but is horrible for glare outdoors. I have used my friends notebook with a glossy screen and much prefer the matte because the constant high level of reflections of things around me drove me crazy! :p :D

I would get the Matte screen .
But I don't think it would matter which one you choose if you are going to use a color calibator :D .
The real question is wich Macbook Pro you'll choose :
a.- the basic 15" with 128mb of VRAM
b.- the 15" with 256mb of VRAM or
c.- 17" with the same 256mb VRAM (I read somewhere that sez that the card inside the 17" runs faster because there 's more space for airflow)

I have a 15" 2.16ghz macbook pro with the matte finish. I went to the apple store a number of times before buying my mbp to see which was better. Yes, glossy has richer colors...but the glare would be annoying 75% of the time you'd use it. Get the matte finish, especially if you're getting it for design.

Also, yes the 17" will run faster than an equally matched 15"...but 17" isn't very portable. Sounds like it won't be sitting on a desk all day so 17" is pretty much out of the question. If you can spare it get the 100gb 7200rpm harddrive, it will make a huge difference. Those were my two biggest choices I had to make before buying, so I hope they help you.

If you use a calibration tool (hardware) I would suggest the matt screen. If you don't, then the color fedility doesnt matter, so get the glossy.

You shouldn't be doing any color correcting on your laptop anyway.

I'd go 256mb video card in either size. Futureproofing as much as you can.

I have a 2.16 glossy and my wife a 2.0 matte. The glossy is great both in and out for me. Beautiful screen

To give a reason to why you should get a Matte screen... If you get the glossy youre putting the Consumer screen on the Pro notebook. Thats what did it for me.
