I have a macbook that i use with an external monitor, i really love my mb, except for the graphics card. i experience a lot of lag because of it when it is connected to the monitor. So i'm considering an upgrade to a pro model. I have no problem buying the base, but i want 256 mb now. Not 128. Is that upgrade not an option?

Also is the ram for the MB and MBP the same?

No, you cannot choose to upgrade the base model MBP's VRAM to 256MB. And yes, the RAM for the MacBook should work fine in the MBP. In my experience, I've found the 128MB VRAM to be fine for me, I sometimes dig out Need For Speed Most Wanted and play it at Medium-High settings and it's very playable.
