MBP harddrive never goes to sleep

Hi all

My week old MacBook Pro never lets it's harddrive go to sleep. The hd is spinning all the time. I think the spotlight indexing shold be done by now.

By viewing the activity monitor I have seen that the drive recieves writes that often that the hd never get to stop rotating.

Have anyone else experienced this kind of problems?

The computer is a MBP stock 2.0Ghz .

What apps are running? Is the hard drive set to sleep in the Energy Saver section of System Preferences?

Running no other apps than finder. The hard-drive is set to "go to sleep...".

My iBook's hard drive very rarely sleeps of its own accord (apart from when the whole machine sleeps) just because of background system processes like maintenance scripts, .Mac synchronising, Mail checking, general network activity etc.

I'd be more worried if the entire machine never fell asleep. Are you having any problems in that respect?

Either way, I'd be interested to hear other people's experiences with their MacBook's sleeping habits.

The sleep function for the entire machine works like a dream, the only problem lies with the hd spindown. I'll see if it changes over time, thanks anyway.

I have never seen a mac running OS X sleep properly. They don't go to sleep of their own accord, they don't stay asleep and will wake up after a second or several hours with no user input. I've found the laptops to be particularly bad about this problem, also desktops with 3rd party mouse or keyboard.

Since I haven't see every Mac in the world I won't make sweeping statements but none of the Macs I'm in close contact with have ever had sleep problems. The only time my mother thought she had a problem with it waking it up on its own, it turned out to be her Bluetooth mouse waking it up since she'd set in system prefs to allow Bluetooth to wake up and the mouse had moved in her bag.
