MBP: HD Noise When Waking Up On Powering On

When I turn on my MBP or if it wakes up from sleeping mode, I hear a noise that seems to be the hard drive. It's not the spin up type noise but it sounds more like the eject noise when a CD/DVD is ejected. It's a short, quick and sharp sound. I wanted to find out if it's something to do with the hard drive locking or parking itself every time the computer sleeps or shuts off. Is this normal?

I've noticed only when I restart or power on does the sound make itself known. It sounds like it's coming from the Superdrive though, and doesn't matter whether there's a disc in there or not.

Mine also does some sound like the eject noise when a CD/DVD is ejected when I start it or wakes up.

Yeah, I think it's totally normal as well because mine does it as well.

Seems like it's pretty useless to have the Superdrive do that all the time--don't know if it's checking to make sure there's no cd/dvd inside or what?

Mine makes a "toot toot" noise whenever I turn it on.

That sound is your optical drive (DVD) checking if there's a disk inside to mount. Don't worry about it, it's just doing what its job.

Just did an update and I noticed that there was a light scratching sound coming from the left side of my MBP. At first I thought it was the Superdrive, but its on the left.

A few seconds after the restart, the noise disappears.
