When I play Starcraft on my 2.16ghz MBP with 1GB Ram the left-side of the computer gets extremely hot. Can this cause permananent damage to the computer or cause the comptuer to go in for early repair. I have had the computer only for a few weeks now and I do not want to ruin it. When I play the game I usually have all other applications closed and am only running Starcraft, although it does use Rosetta emulation.

This is normal and will not harm your macbook.
The whole case is designed to move heat away from the computer.

If it feels burning hot to the touch, return it...this is not what is meant to happen, and is not what you bought such an expensive computer for...

I returned three Core Duo MacBook Pros early last summer and ended up using a MacBook because I thought the Pros were too hot (compared to the 15" PowerBook that I used for a year before trying out the MacBook Pros).

The Core 2 Duo MacBook Pros are (IMO) a lot cooler. I sold my MacBook and upgraded to a C2D MBP and love it. It still gets warm under a load, but isn't constantly hot like the orig MBPs I tried earlier this year were.

I don't know much about games, but if Starcraft is an OS X game, you can run one of the fan control programs. Maybe it'll keep it a little cooler?
