Running low on power? Your 15-inch or 17-inch PowerBook is so accommodating, you can swap out batteries with minimal interruption. Put the PowerBook to sleep. Remove the current battery. Pop in the new battery. Wake up your PowerBook. You dont even need to save your work.

We're already at OS 10.0? What is that, cheetah?Apple said:Note: This will not work if you are using Mac OS X 10.0.
I was being sarcastic. Mac OSX 10 as in Mac OS 10.10 (ya know... 10.4, 10.5, 10.6... etc all the way to 10.10) And after that comes OSXI as in OS 11.WildCowboy said:Um, yes...Mac OS X 10.0 was Cheetah. I don't understand your comment.

Back up battery
The back battery is no longer a rechargeable. It only provides power to the real time clock and does not support system memory.
If you don’t have a power adapter connected, when you swap a battery in a running system, it must be done from sleep. The system will shutdown when you remove the battery. When you power back up, it will boot up from hiberation.
... which pretty much means the batteries are hotswappable when the mbp is sleeping.when you swap a battery in a running system, it must be done from sleep
