I just called my local Applestore and they say they have the 1.83 and the 2Ghz in stock.
Question: Is the 2Ghz one worth the $500 extra dollars?

not unless you really need the extra bit. the 1.83 will be fine for anything outside of heavy photoshop/etc. use.

The extra $500 price is not just for the processor speed. It also includes 1GB of ram (+$100 to 1.83 price) and larger hard drive (+$100 to 1.83 price) and 256MB of video ram instead of 128mb. Still that leaves $300 more just for a faster processor and more video memory. For me it was worth it, because I was going to upgrade the hard drive and memory anyway.

If you have they money get it. If you dont, then I doubt you'll ever regret not getting the faster model. I ordered a 2GHz because I want it to last 4-6 years while I am in college.

...and dont forget about resell (if this is a consideration). Personally, I think the 2.0 would have a better relative resale although its a small jump.

I bought the 2.0 for the same reasons bigger hard drive 1gig ram and bigger video card. I do a lot of photoshop, and video editing and I do not regret the extra at all! Even in rosetta photoshop flies. It seems much faster than my 1.5 pb.

Ok, I just got home with my new 2Ghz MBP:D Now to load all my stuff...

Question: Does the 1GB of RAM come in one chip or 2x512?

Thanks for the replies!

I'm local to you (Fairfax, at the HWY 50/Fairfax Pkwy junction). Which store did you get your MBP from? I'd thought the closest reseller to me was MicroCenter off of Nutley Street.

Sadly, I've to wait and build a stockpile of cash before making a purchase.

Tysons Corner at the mall. They had the 2's ad 2,16's in stock. 2,16 at 3k was asking my wallet too much
