Hi all

My 2009 13" MBP keeps logging out when I've left it unattended.
It should just be sleeping, but when I come back it's logged me out completely. It's not low on battery or anything & this seems fairly recent behaviour.

I believe it's resulted in corrupted external drives & all sorts, so I'm not happy about it

Any way I can figure out what is causing the log out? (and stop it?)

At this rate I'm going to have to reinstall the OS from scratch - I can't have it doing this

Hoping somewhere here can help ..

When you say "logging out" do you mean having to enter your password or shutting down?

Hi all - no, it's definitely logging out.

It *used* to just lock so that when I came back to it, it prompted me for my password & I was back where I left off.

*Now* if I've left it for a while, it's back to the texture-background screen, showing an image for each user that can be clicked on to get the login prompt. Once I click my username & enter password it starts firing up all my login apps.

Sometimes when I come back to the Mac, it *is* just locked, but after I enter my password there's a dialogue box on the screen saying something along the lines of "logout was cancelled because applicationxyz failed to quit"

So it's definitely logging me out

Question is .... why (or what)?

Hi, Have you tried going into the security preferences, and clicking the advanced button the the bottom left of the window? If the option to log out after a certain period of time is ticked, untick it, click ok and then click the padlock to prevent further changes and this should solve your problem.

Bingo - that was it. Excellent; good result & hopefully that's solved now.
I'd check the Energy Saving Prefs, but not the Security > Advanced Prefs

Thanks MadMacFan - much appreciated
