Hi All,
My MBP late 2011 (15") had only been upgraded to OS X Lion (10.7.5 I believe) and I've just attempted to boot from a Sierra install disk. When the install happened it took a while but all went smoothly in the end. However, after the install I'm struggling to get past the bootup.
The Apple logo appears against a light grey background, with a dark grey progress bar just below it. The bar takes 20-25m to load (seems suspiciously long winded) and then just stops once it's full. So far I have tried only resetting the PRAM and that hasn't worked.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

N.b. worth noting the device is in shady condition at best. It was functioning on Lion for most tasks, but Chrome was giving me the "no longer supported" spiel. It meant I couldn't view Facebook or YouTube and if I visited a site with ads the screen "crashed" - it kind of looked like a HW issue but I'm hoping it's just a SW thing.....hence the upgrade.
