I have a late 2013, 15" MBP retina, with the dual GPU's that I am quite fond of. It is not my daily driver since I also have a 16" I9, but I do tend to use it about 30% of the time it is always in my go bag for when I leave the office.

I would very much like it to be in sync with the new features and my other devices. I have not kept up with all the ways available to upgrade the older machines and from reading a lot of the threads it seems to be a bit of a crap shoot how successful it may be.

So what is the general opinion of those who are better informed? Should I try the OC upgrade method, wait a bit longer until things get more figured out, or just be happy with Big Sur?

Thanks in advance.

If I were you, before jumping on the unsupported Mac train, I'd consider waiting until Monterey comes out of beta and the public release has reached .1 or .2

Looking at history, some lower point releases will follow fairly soon after the initial production release as more issues are found and fixed.

Another benefit is that OCLP is still pretty new, particularly with respect to Monterey. By waiting just a bit longer you're giving the OCLP developers more time to find and fix issues and develop new functionality.

I'm booting the Monterey beta in a separate volume, in fact I'm typing on it now. I gained the confidence to install it by first installing the current Big Sur production releases using OCLP

Both Big Sur and Monterey are working well on my dual graphics rMBP 10,1, a year older model than yours. I use Big Sur for production, and Monterey just for testing and non critical stuff. I prefer Monterey overall and am looking forward to the first public releases.
