we recently got two new MBP's, on the wife's, sometimes her left-shift "Y" doesnt work, at all.

you hold down shift, press Y (to get a capital) and it doesnt work... it works occasionally however.

left-shift and other letters work..

strange!? looks to be some kind of software issue

right-shift and Y works fine!

idea's?

Okay, some more testing.

we compared my MBP international settings to my wife's.. both absolutely the same.

english, with Australian keyboard.

for a test, we changed her keyboard to "US"

now the left-shift Y works.

doesnt explain why it intermittantly worked previously using the australian keyboard.

and my continues to work, as usual, set as Australian.

odd!

i rang apple support because it got worse and worse.

she talked me through resetting the PMU and the PRAM..

however it's still a big problem, we're having to reset the pmu / pram twice a day or more.

now the following key's do not work

6yhn=/ (and the space bar, doesnt work)

look at the key's on your keyboard. strange that that whole row down (6yhn space) dont work!!!

my MBP is fine, but the wife's key's just keep failing over and over.

we're going to take the unit back to where we bought it for replacement or repair, or SOMETHING. she's a bit upset, having only had the machine for a short time now!!

Sounds strange... You didn't push the F6 button did you? At least if that function key is the same on my PB. When that is activated, some keys don't work, had it a couple of times and couldn't get it turned off. Has something to do with the numberpad. When I restarted it, it was turned off again.

nah definately not anything to do with the F6 key as far as I can tell.

have rang the shop we bought the unit's from, theyre going to take a look at it, and if they cant fix it they will probably replace it..... time will tell.

Strange that it's a whole row down that doesn't work. Either that's a big coincidence, or the keyboard could be faulty. Hopefully nothing more problematic than the keyboard.
