MBP Long(er) Shutdown Time

First of all ladies and gents I am a complete mac newbie and computer newbie in general.

Lately, my MBP has been taking a little bit of extra time to shut down. After clicking shutdown everything happens normally but then it goes to a blue screen with the little twirly thing at the bottom. Which means its thinking right? After doing this for less then 30 seconds it shuts down. It never used to do this. Should I worry, or is everything cool?

That blue screen with the swirl at the bottom showed up for me too in the past and I am not sure what it's about.

I'd assume that all it's doing is closing apps you haven't quit and/or writing process logs. Either way, everything's fine.
 
I have notice the same problem on mine as well, its really a recent thing...could this be due to OS updates or something?
 
The problem you are experincing can be from many many difffrent sources. The way to narrow it down is to boot into verbose mode. You can do this by holding command + v at boot until you get a text dump. Dont pay too much attention to this one its not the important one.

Once you go to shutdown next time you will also get a verbose text dump on shutdown, this is the one that will help you. You can see exactly what it is getting stuck on. Once you get that info post back here and someone can help you out a little more =)
 
I believe mine was caused by the MacFUSE Tools application I had installed. I updated it to a newer version and after at least 1 reboot it took a normal amount of time. Hopefully it's fixed for good.
