OK, I'm trying to see if there is a workaround for this. I have a 2021 14" MBP that I sometimes connect to my HP docking station I use in my home office for work. I just added a 2nd monitor that works fine for my HP work laptop but My MBP is just duplicating both secondary screens when plugged in.

I know there are M1 limitations with screens but I've read there is a workaround to using a 2nd additional screen using DisplayLink or InstantView. i've installed both of these but neither seems to recognize the HP dock plugged in to the USB port.

Has anyone been able to successfully do this or is it just not going to work?

Settings > Displays and for each display make sure mirroring is not selected.

But my MBP isn't recognizing an additional monitor. It is set to extend from my main screen but I can't get it to recognize a 3rd screen. I know my machine won't natively do this but I can't figure out how to make the workaround work.

I'm going to guess at this point I need a specific docking station that is compatible with DisplayLink and this HP dock is not. Which could be fine if I am able to install the specific drivers on my work laptop as well. I'm not sure if I'll have permission to do that. If not, then I might need to use 2 different docking stations and change the HDMI cables between the docks as needed. Sounds like a pain but it might be what I need to do.

M1 is stuck with one external display but your 14" MBP should be either an M1 Pro or M1 Max and both natively support more than one external display. Your machine doesn't like that docking station.
