MBP M1 Pro 16 inches - external monitors

Hi,

So at my job, they are now offering Macs instead of PCs. I will have a MBP M2 16 inches. I currently have 2 x 4k external displays with my current computer.

I read there is a limitation of one external display. My question is, if the lid is closed, does the limitation is still one external display or you can have 2?

BTW all my displays are USB-C.

There is no limitation to 1 display on the M1 MBP 16.

Nobody knows what the M2 MBP 16" will like, but it will unlikely to be a regression from the M1. Your future computer will likely only be released in December at the very earliest. If not sometimes next year.

I wonder if you have all your models confused.

you are totally right. I just read the specs and it's the current M1 Pro. My mistake

There isn’t a 16-inch M2 MacBook Pro, yet.

The 16-inch MacBooks with M1 Pro chip support 2 external displays, and with the M1 Max chip supports 4 external displays.

I have an M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16 and it supports 2x4k just fine. Just make sure that you get good cables.

I have a DisplayLink hub that claims to support 2x4k @ 60 hz arriving tomorrow and will put that to the test. I kind of don't believe that it will do that but I only really need it for 1x4k @ 60 hz. Ask for a 32 GB model if they'll do it. It's nice to have the extra RAM and it will be good for a long time.

Why would you want to run your display(s) through DisplayLink? Seems like a huge downgrade unless you mean to add a 3rd display.

The target is an M1 Mac mini. I like to have a laptop and a desktop so that I don't have to plug and unplug.
