I recently bought a standard Black MacBook and upgraded the RAM to 2gb from Newegg. The Laptop turned out to be DoA after a week's use. Since it was my 2nd purchase and both turned out to be DoA I decided to wait for the Meroms and just hold off until then and use my trusty hp for a while more.

My question is this. If I buy the low-end Merom MBP when it comes out considering it has all the same configuration as the lowest standard MBP in the market today will I be able to insert only 1 1gb stick into it or both?

I don't wanna pay almost $500 more and have 500mb less RAM. That's kinda retarded because I mostly need faster processing power and not much reliability on the graphics card.

You can go to 1.5GB without removing the 512MB already installed. If you want to remove the 512MB stick it comes with you can go to 2GB.

The cheapest MacBook Pro comes with 512MB ram as standard but if you already have 2x1GB modules you can just remove the standard 512MB ram and insert both your 1GB modules for a total of 2GB ram.

They come with 512, but split onto two memory chips so 2x 256 ?

If you add 1gb you will only have 1.25 not 1.5

That's for a MacBook, the MacBook Pro comes with one stick of RAM in all configs. A demi should really know this...

To the OP, keep you RAM, it will work in the MacBook Pro, remove the 512MB stick (keep it though incase you need AppleCare assistance) and bung both 1GB sticks in there. 2GB and a super speedy machine await.

Doh!! :p :D I did put a question mark at the end so it was a question as well as a reply as I wasnt 100% :)

Thanks everyone. I was just concerned that you couldn't remove the 512mb stick that comes pre-installed with the MBP, but it seems you can so all's good.
