MBP>Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter>HDMI cable>HDTV

I use the following setup to connect my mbp to my TV. The video is fine but there is no sound. From my understanding both the mini display and HDMI interface support sound. What is missing here?

The miniDisplayPort does not support audio, DisplayPort does.

Do any Apple products have DisplayPort? I think they all have miniDisplayPorts.
