I'm trying to understand something here and I think I know the answer but I want to be sure about it.

If I have a 15" MacBook Pro with a resolution of 1400x900, it works out as being 1,260,000 pixels.

If I have a 17" MacBook Pro with a resolution of 1680x1050, it works out at being 1,764,000 pixels.

Just over half a million pixels more with the 17" MBP.

Now, I have a 19" Monitor with a Resolution of 1400x900, while it is a bigger screen, am I right in thinking that it doesn't have bigger screen real estate than the 17" MBP?

I'm under the impression that the pixels on the 17" MBP are denser or are smaller? Which is it and does it matter either way? Have I got more screen space with the MBP?

I think I have but I want to be sure about this and how.

Screen size pertains to the physical specifications, so descriptions like 15", 17" 19" fall under this category.

Screen real estate describes how many things you can fit on that screen or in another words resolution. The higher the resolution, the more you can fit on your screen.

Density describes how many pixels per square inch (in the case of monitors). So the smaller the screen and the larger the resolution would mean a denser pixel count.

So to more directly answer your question, you are correct in saying the 17" has more real estate since the resolution is higher. You do have more screen space and it is denser while being smaller.

Hope that helps to clear things up for you.
