Hi,

Having some frustrating issues with my 15' Macbook Pro (Late 2013) running Big Sur and my Yamaha HS7 Studio Speakers :

When I connect the speakers via XLR to 3.5mm jack they work fine for awhile and then I get suddenly no audio output. When I try to change the volume I get a no sound icon. The only fix is to restart the computer/speakers or physically re-connect the speakers.

My latest gen Macbook Pro with M1 Pro running Ventura does not have this issue with said speakers, but I decided anyway to change the cables and the issue persists on the 2013 Macbook Pro. I wasted some money on really high-end cables for nothing lol.

Is there a fix for this issue or its due to the fact that this Mac is a decade old and its at the end of its life ?
(BTW this computer is awesome, when I purchased it in 2013 I maxed it out with a 1TB SSD and a 2GB GPU. A great investment)

The headphone jack may be wearing out.

Perhaps use something like this:

I'm wondering…when the sound stops working can you still see the built-in audio device in System Preferences>Sound? If so, Fishrrman is probably right about the jack. If not, there's a deeper hardware issue.

Either way, an inexpensive USB audio device would be the way to go.

Alternately, you could get a Bluetooth receiver and go wireless. Downside to that is the degradation of sound via Bluetooth. Upside is not having to plug in and take up a USB port. However, a USB audio device will probably work via a USB hub if you need to do it that way.
