My friends MBP appears to not be booting and is frozen on the grey boot screen, we hear the chime and see the apple logo, but no loading wheel.

It all started after we installed some updates, not sure which though.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!!!

More than likely if it messed up on an update a simple archive and install will fix this. Find your install disc, boot to your install disc by holding down on C after you restart the machine with the install disc in it. Follow the onscreen instructions until you get to the part where it says "Select a Destination Drive" in the lower left corner there is a button that says Other Options or something to that effect. Select Archive and Install...continue through steps. If that doesn't work...

From an earlier post:

"First thing I would do is boot this up and put your install disc into the machine. Shut it down and start up holding C. Once you get to the installer click english for your language preference and then find disk utility. It should be under utilities along the top menu bar.

In disk utility there's a couple things you may see here.

Your HD with a grayed out partition:
-Meaning you probably have severe directory damage which can be fixed by disk warrior typically or a clean erase and install

Your HD will show up in red:
-Meaning it's failing smart status and you need a new HD

Your HD may not show up at all:
-Also meaning your drive is hosed and you need a new one"
