I have my MBP setup to activate the screen saver at 15 mins, to sleep the display at 20 minutes, and to put the computer to sleep at 1 hr of inactivity. This afternoon I had to run some errands for a few hours and left the MBPs screen open. When I returned, the display was off but the LED on the cover release button wasn't slowly flashing indicating it was asleep, it was solid. When I moved my mouse the desktop showed up real quick with no noise from the HD or Superdrive like when it wakes up after the screen is closed.

I tested it out again by leaving the computer sit for over an hour and sure enough there was no indication that the computer went to sleep like it should have. I put my head close to the computer and still heard the fans running meaning it hadn't went to sleep.

I've read issues about the computer not going to sleep when the screen is closed but mine does that just fine. Anyone else having this issue. What should I do to correct this?

I have this exact issue as well. Not sure why it won't sleep. I made sure that there were no USB connections and bluetooth was off and don't believe I have any software that is doing anything to keep it running.

winchest: I actually resolved my issue several weeks ago. What was happening was the backup software for my WD external harddrive was running a process every few seconds causing my system to not go to sleep. I'd say it's most likely a program based on my experience...or your network connection.
