I've gotten a tad bit paranoid with everything i've been reading about the MBP's! Heat, noises, etc...

Is there anything I need to do once I receive the machine to check for these issue (download special programs, etc.)?

well, open it up.

turn it on.

after about 20-30 mins of playing around with iMovie or another program that uses the processor, put your hand on the left side of your laptop. Or... put it somewhere else on the laptop. If you say ouch, ouch, ouch - you might be in the normal heat range.

If you're worried about the whine, the best software for it is to put your ear right next to the computer and listen and listen good. Whine?!!?!?

Some of the best software testin' out there was provided by God.

Make sure you get all the updates before you make your judgment on the whine and heat. Updates may have addressed those issues.

Are you saying that you can't actually hear the whine unless you put your ear next to the computer? How can that even be an issue then? Seriously if that is the problem people on these forums need to stop whiny. ;)
