So, this is hopefully not going to be one of those annoying when is it gonna happen threads. but....

This is just a thought that was going on in my head: Seeing as the iphone and now the imac are aluminum casing with black around the screen and an aluminum case. My best guess is that this will be the future of the Macbook Pro design.

Aluminum case, Black Apple logo in the back, screen with black frame (to make the screen look bigger when turned off as with the imac), Glass cover to the screen, and the new keyboard. I think its a pretty good estimate of what it will look like.

I was just wondering if anyone had thought the same thing? Any thoughts?

Oh, and it wont be anytime soon, lol. My guess is earliest announcement would be next Jan.

I doubt it. The MBP is supposed to be the "Pro" model, so they won't make it identical to the iMac (a consumer model).

Also, a glass screen would be impractical in a laptop because it would add a bunch of weight and just make it even more fragile.

Next redesign of the MBP case will probably remain pretty much the same, but they'll probably add a user-replaceable hard drive and maybe a magnetic latch.

Technically the latch already is magnetic, albeit not in the same way the consumer MacBook's is. The MBP's design has aged very well in my opinion. It's not something that once looked futuristic, and now doesn't, like the original PowerBook, the iMac G3 or G4, etc. They're still really beautiful machines that are solidly built for the pro market they target.

In my opinion I think we will see a redesign on the Macbooks to reflect the imacs more so than the MacBook Pros. There is no way in hell that apple would force people to have that glossy glass screen. It is completely impractical for a laptop. Thats why they give you the choice at the moment with the gloss or matte screens. It does seem however that Apple is trying to add the color black to their product scheme, but I doubt that they would tarnish the clean aluminum look of the macbook pros.

Interesting...it has got me thinking.

Dude, seriously, do you have anything to offer aside from 'interesting' on a number of threads or are you just trying to bump up your post-count?

Anyway, to the OP, I think that the minimalist/industrial design of the pro series is a strong differentiator between not only Apple's product lines but also against the pro offerings of other manufacturers. And as stated, the current design is definitely beautiful and would withstand the test of time.

Apple would completely ****-up the pro line if they messed around with it too much. If they were to evolve the design, I would hope they would do something like: locating the latch further out instead of in the center; have an adjustable camera; and gesture input on the pad.

I would like this to be the case, but I don't think it's going to happen any time soon. The macbooks just saw a major design revision last year. They are a little more than a year old, and they already have an established look. I think a macbook that follows the style format of the new iMac would be awesome; I just don't know if Apple is ready to reinvent their most popular notebook of all time.

Interesting...it has got me thinking.

Err..what does a high post count matter..

I've given some thought to a redesign of the mbp. I feel like no matter what they do they can't make it look any better than it does (in my opinion). any changes will just make it look worse for the most part.

It's not about how nice it looks, it's about what's inside....that and how nice it looks on the outside.

Agreed.

They won't make the screen glass either. Glass is much heavier than the stuff they use now.

The screen is made from thin pieces of glass currently. The iMac's glass is not only the screen, which has always been made of glass, but it's the black covering of the screen.

lol.
I always wonder when would they change this classic powerbook design. It's just like a mini cooper or porsche 911, where a complete redesign will contain the basically the same looks. Since, it's a classic, the outer design is never going to change significantly.

SINCE 2001, THE TITANIUM POWERBOOK HAS NOT COMPLETEY REDESIGNED AT ALL. AND IT SURVIVIED. IT SURVIVED IN THIS HI TECH ERA WHERE NEW EVOLUTIONARY DESIGNS AND PRODUCTS ARE INTRODUCED. IT SURVIVED.

The only thing's I'd like to see would be a magnetic latch and slight curves on the edge of the laptop by the trackpad etc - make it more comfortable for my wrists :p .. proper typing might be with wrists raised, but that get's annoying after awhile :p
