MBP screen - again:) - Apple response

Hi,

I'm a proud owner of MBP C2D and one of many users still not happy with it's screen - uneven backlight, terrible viewing angles etc... all the usuals
I was browsing Apple forums today when I found this post. I think it;s quite interesting and I would like to know if someone got similiar response from Apple:

A while back I sent an email to Steve Jobs and got a response from Corp. Executive Relations. This agent had me send in pics and vids of my issues: graininess, banding, poor viewing area, uneven lighting.

The agent sent it all to the engineers who agreed there were screen issues. She asked me to continue to call AppleCare monthly and see if the engineers had found a solution. I didnt really want to keep sending in my MBP with the possibility of getting another dud especially with this unit working pretty well.

Well, it was time to call this month and was informed that the engineers still dont have a solution but are working hard to find one. He thought they were probably fighting with the manufacturers and it would end up like a previous notebook (I think he said the iBook) where there would be a recall. He mentioned that with such a huge number of calls coming in with this issue it was now a priority with the engineers.

I thought all this was interesting news. At least Apple is really acknowledging the issues are real and that there are a lot of units out there with the problem. I kept complaining that we have waited long enough but there isnt much AppleCare can do about it now.

I wonder if I should have asked for something for my ongoing dissatisfaction with this long term issue. Would be nice to have a shiny new iPod...

Interesting. I haven't seen any problems with my MBP yet though, esp. since it's just a huge improvement over my powerbook. The viewing angles could be better, but I thought that it was just cause it was a laptop.

Glad to hear that Apple is aware of the issue and actively looking for solutions though

I think this "screen issue" is very individual - I met MBP owners who are absolutely happy with it - and there are ppl like myself who are annoyed by some MBP screen features (I can't stand this "dust" - hard to describe it - best way of spotting the difference is to put MBP next to Macbook - at least for me Macbook have much more nice, clean look.
Still - I dont really think that any kind of "recall" would be possible. Future will tell

Yep my screen is as grainy as hell! I hate it, thats why when apple comes out with the new ACD I'm going to buy one straight away!

2 month old MBP C2D 15"

I have dust under the screen.... really ***** annoying when working doing touchup work on PS CS3. I was planning on dropping it off monday for service.

Interesting note about the display ( From an apple certified repair person ) is that the bezel around the display is GLUED on and if you don't take it off just right you have to replace the whole LCD unit ( a $1295 item if you need to purchase it ).

With regard to writing to Steve Jobs, I have sent several letters (a real letter, not email) to the CEOs when I have had problems with their companies. In most businesses, a team of people is dedicated to dealing with people who take the time to write to the CEO. Often, they help resolve the situation or at least do what they can to help.

I would suggest everyone write a letter to Steve. It doesn't hurt for him and his team to know what people feel.

I'm very particular with displays and I returned a numberof Macbook pros last year because of the graininess, uneven backlight etc.. I havenoticed though that the most recent MBPs seem to have less grain than the ones from late last year. It could be that AOU has changed the antiglare coating on their displays - and kept the same model number. they do seem better though, even if they're not as nice and crisp as the macbooks...

The 17" and macbook are very clearly better in this regard.

I returned a less then week old MBP Glossy because the screen was uneven at the top ... it was very distracting. They swapped it out immediately with no questions. I did swap for a matte screen as the glossy was also distracting to me ... however that was not the reason I took it back.

Now this new screen as unevenness to it for about the first 15 minutes I'm using it and then the display seems to "warm-up". Not crazy about it ... but it is livable where the other notebook was just unacceptable and very noticeable. I think the plan is as soon as the new MBP are available with the LCD displays this MBP will promptly find itself on ebay and I'll try my luck with the new technology.

I have a Mac Book Pro with a grainy screen. I don't really have a problem with it. The colors and everything look real nice. It will be nice to see how this developes though.

My first macbook pro (purchased late december 2006) gradually collected dust under the screen until I had it when I had around 12 specks. They replaced my screen and the new one has been great (other than the dead pixel) until around 3 weeks ago when it began collecting more dust. I've never had this happen to any other computer I've ever owned, and I had a revA macbook pro, several powerbook G4s, and countless PC notebooks.

I can deal with the graininess, but I can't deal with dust inside a supposedly sealed display. BTW, I have the Chimei brand display now.

The one I'm returning today ( original ) is ChiMei as well. Of the two people I personally know with a MBP one of them had dust as well. I'm betting the numbers are quite high, but most people don't necessarly notice if it's just a small amount of dust.
