Hi. I recently got a second hand macbook pro 15" 2013 at a very good price, and it's worked fine for a few days. I decided to try to remove the peeling screen coating to make it look better. Soap, alcohol, tissues and lots of rubbing. It went fine, I got most of it, and checked that it worked well after that. I then cleaned the whole thing with a damp cloth. Booted it again, and it boots, I can plug in an external monitor and it works well. But the whole top lid is dead. The screen, and also the white apple on top doesn't light up. It's obvious it doesn't have power.

As I said, this did not occur as a consequence of the cleaning itself, but I might have short-cut'ed something in the final cleaning.

Anyone have experience with this kind of thing?
There is not some kind of 'fuse' that I've blown?
And I can't believe that the whole screen is blown…

I've tried PM reset, smc reset, anything I can think of.

My remaining hope is if there is some dampness shorting the power, that it will evaporate and fix itself…

Any input appreciated.

Thank you.
Yes, I've actually placed it on my heated bathroom floor to help with evaporation.

There is no 'mosture in the laptop'. I used some liquid solvents on the screen when I removed the coating. Only after cleaning the mac with a damp cloth, this issue suddenly appeared. It might even have nothing to do with moisture; perhaps it was my slightly rough handling of the mac in the process that broke something. I've tried moving and flexing the lid but no sign of it getting power at all.
