Hi,
I have been having problems with my 15in MBP screen(non-led) and a genius ordered a replacement screen two weeks ago. Apple has still not called me to let me know they have the screen in. When I check online, it just says status not available.

I've had to get many other things repaired before and the most i have ever had to wait for parts is 3 or 4 days. Is it normal to wait this long just for the parts to come in?

Wait what? They're letting YOU replace the screen instead of sending the entire laptop to them and letting THEM replace it? I wonder if you'll get an LED based screen now or and LCD based screen since they said they are trying to phase out all LCD based screens....I mean, they SHOULDN'T have anymore 15 inch LCD based screens...

From my experience, Apple usually sends stuff Next Day via DHL. Could just be a lack of older LCD screens lying around so they had to special order from the manufacturer or something. The best way to find out what the hold up is to call your Apple Store.

Apple stores usually order parts and do in store repairs. Most likely they just told the OP that they will contact him when they get the parts and to keep the MBP until then. That would make the most sense and be the most convenient for the customer. I highly doubt he meant that he was installing the screen himself.

Apple is going to do the replacement at the Apple store once they get the part. I'm hoping for an LED, though I asked the genius and he said their were other parts that would need replaced besides just the screen for it to work (I think the inverter).

I'll give them a call and see what's taking so long.

They actually left a message on my phone a couple hours ago telling me they got the part in. Thanks.

Man, I wish they had an Apple store around here (Lansing, MI). I didn't understand what you meant b/c anytime I've needed my Mac fixed, I've had to send it off to Apple thru the mail....

Could you please update us on if you recieve an LED screen or not? Thx.

Not to be an ass, but I dont think that the screen will be replaced with an LED one.

It would need a new inverter, and a few more parts for the new backlight to work properly. It would probably cost more to replace ALL of those parts for the conversion to work. This would least to a higher cost, leading me to belive that apple wouldnt do this.

BUT, since its been so long for your repair.....maybe if you ask nicely you could have all of the parts switched since you waited so long...

I think I got a non-led screen replacement (which is what I was expecting). It has a slightly uneven backlight.

I can't find a single pixel anomaly on the screen yet, so I'm happy. I compared it to another MBP (purchased in January) and the screen did look noticeably brighter, though the other screen might have faded in the last seven months.
