I may have heard of this issue before, but either way, it's quite simple...pull the power cord off the connector, and the MBP simply shuts itself down.

The battery still says it's charged, I've done all the updates on the OS, reset PRAM and run permissions...I am kind of at a loss as to what might be causing it...unless is a more serious problem.

I will stop by our Apple store tomorrow and see what they have to say, but in the mean time...what do ya'll think?

Much appreciated.:)

sounds to me like a faulty battery or a faulty battery sensor, but i've not had this issue nor have i heard of it before.

solution!

the battery is somehow messed up, whipped out a battery from another MBP and it worked fine...the stricken battery would not work on the other MBP...soooo it's the battery. To the Apple store I go tomorrow.

Thanks.

crap

THanks for posting the solution (even if it isn't what i wanted to hear).
My dad's MBP is doing the exact same thing.
When I do the battery check on the back all the lights light up (even when unplugged) but the computer will not run unless the MagSafe is plugged in. Then if you unplug it everything shuts off.

Because I bought this laptop in March '06 will they charge me for the new battery? :(

i had the exact same problem; the guy at the store said it wasn't a recalled battery, but I wonder if this is the first sign of a new problem. Is yours a C2D?

btw, apple covered the battery under the warranty, replaced it in a jiffy.

cheers,
mike

I had to replace the battery in my MBP a few months ago. It would run for ~5 minutes and would then just shut down. The battery showed as charged but it wouldn't start up again until it was plugged in. So far, so good on the new battery.

oh wow I feel like a 'tard.
C2D = Core 2 Duo. Haha.
I thought you were referring to which model/update it was.

Yes it is the 15" Core 2 Duo model.

I sure hope these are only scattered events. I'd hate to see another recall for Apple during the time when they are getting more and more 'converts' every week.
