OK, i got a MBP, running osx 10.4.8. When i download things, for example, having an estimate time left of 45mins, ill set the energy saver, display, at say 20mins, then the computer(and hard drive option ticked) for 1hr.(times are an example.) Also, under security, i have setup a password for screensaver/wake from sleep. Heres my problem.
I have done this many a time, and its worked fine. But lately, ive come back from a day out, or woke up, and the mbp is on, you can tell via the slight noise it makes. The screen is off. When i move the mouse, it wakes, doesnt prompt for a password, and is boiling hot, blatently not slept. This is extremely annoying. I have also, tried setting the display, and computer, to sleep at the same time, and the same problem occurs. What should i do? Send it back to apple? To me, this is a pretty big defect/problem. If anyone has any suggestions, or ways to fix it, please, let me know. I dont really want to send it back to apple, cuz i wont have access to another computer, but if needs be, i will send it off. Thanks, Tyler

I'd take it to a Genius Bar, seems like a good candidate for them. Basically it's probably a fairly straightforward issue; but hard to diagnose long-distance. :D And if it's an actual issue with the laptop, it'll need to go back anyway.

If you had a bluetooth mouse I'd suspect you hadn't turned off that "allow bluetooth devices to wake" preference; but the "boiling hot" comment makes it sound like something else is going on.

I rang apple, and they said take it to the nearest store. Im gonna do that next week. Although, genuises, ive never heard of over here. Sleep problems my main worry, leaving it on for 12hrs plus, when it should be alseep. Not to mention the password problem. Also, the flicker seems to be getting worse. In experience, how long would apple have it for if it got sent off? Anyone answer that question, anyone from the UK here? Thanks though.

EDIT - Didnt have a bluetooth mouse.
