For those that have seen/used both the Samsung and the LG screens in the new MBP would you say there was a difference in the amount of grain between the two. I seem to remember someone else mentioning this and while I have read comments like - "This is the best screen I have ever owned" - I definately would not agree.

so looks like there really could be a difference in quality/graining between the Samsung and LG. Just my luck to get a Samsung :(

I bought my MBP two weeks ago. It has the Samsung screen as well. No grain, no yellow tint issue. I did calibrate my screen under the display settings though which made the color a lot better.

Out of interest is that a glossy screen. Mine is - and I have also calibrated it.

System Preferences > Display > Color > Open Profile > Click # 13 from the list.

Model: 00009C68 is Samsung, 67 is LG.

Yeah it's the glossy version. Where is the grain most apparent?

Here's some pictures I took with the digital camera.

The edges appear a little dark in those photos but doesn't look that way in person *shrug*.

Thanks for the pictures. The whole screen shows grain to me. Perhaps i am just used to a better quality display. Before the MBP I had a Rock Xtreme laptop which had a fantastic, smooth, clear 17" screen. Not quite as bright as the MBP - but definately nicer to view for long periods. Apart from this I cannot fault it - especially the OS - which from a recent PC switchers point of view is an obsolute revelation!

I wish I had an LG MBP to compare it too. My bro is going to be picking one up soon (15" MBP) so I'll check his to see which screen he has and do a side by side comparison. Won't be for 2-3 weeks though.

But anyways, maybe you can take it down to an Apple store and see what they say, although I'm about 75% sure they'll just say nothing is wrong and everything is "within design specs", lmao.

Just out of curiosity, does the bottom half look like it has a yellow tint in those pictures I posted? Just want to get a second opinion to make sure i'm not crazy. For those that claim their Samsung screens had the bottom 1/3rd yellow tint issue, how apparent was it?

I've had both LG and Samsung, both with yellowing - but apart from yellowing I actually found Samsung screen much better. Far less grain, brighter, and more evenly lit - clearly superior to LG

So the problem can happen on either or. What's funny is I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung manufactured the LG LCD screens used on the MBP as well. I know they manufactured some of their LCD TVs. Probably all comes from the same plant. ;)

The "local" Apple store is a 3 hour drive away - so not sure I will get there anytime soon.

Your screen didn't look yellow to me from your pictures - but I would say that it appears slightly darker bottom 1/3rd - same as it does on mine - not yellow - just not as bright.

Funny i had both and now a perfect LG, the samsung had grain and yellowing, the LG is clear and bright :)

From the pictures, is not impossible you have it. But remember, it's not necessarily very noticable, the problem is not as marked on every screen.

To check if you have it, check the images in the first post of this thread : https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/343219/

I suggest you download the image and open it in a slideshow (right-click) to see the picture in fullscreen.

On a normal screen, the white box at the bottom is supposed to look the same as the one above.

On a "yellow" screen, the bottom box is darker and have a slight yellowing compared to the one on the top of the screen. (It may be a subtle yellowing)

(It is more apparent on the black image)

Samsung here - looks completely perfect to me, I saw the old MBPs and there was some noticeable grain, can't spot any here, even if I'm trying.

how do you know if you have grainy screen? i'm now bothered by the yellow bottom screen that i just discovered, i took a photo here, it is not so clear since i took it using only my n70, but you can notice the darker bottom, it's darker in the picture than in person,

the last photo, i rotated vertically,....

but i'm really bothered, if ever i return my mbp, will the replacement be sure to be yellow and trouble free? and are the newer batch of mbp been corrected? why does apple seem to be not acknowledging us who unfortunately bought the supposedly samsung(most) screen...? it's so disappointing....
