well, my new MBP takes over 45 seconds to go to sleep (from the time I close the lid), which seems to be pretty long, considering that it used to take about 10 seconds before.

I did install and uninstall tons of programs on the machine, and initially, I thought that the slowness was due to fragmentation of the drive. But I was informed by the discussion board members that defragmentation has nothing to do with it.... in a pretty informative way:D

Right now, my MBP only has those softwares installed which came with it- nothing extra.

The hibernation mode is #3. I did try to change it to #0, but that did not make a difference. I have it switched back to #3.

Please help me get my MBP to sleep faster! Thanks!

Mine takes about 10 seconds, and that's way slower than the previous G4 powerbooks I had (2 seconds).

How much RAM do you have in it? I don't know if this is applicable, but when it sleeps, it copies the RAM on to the HD, just incase you lose power. If you've got a lot of RAM, I could see that as a reason. Other than that, I have no idea.

How would Oynx help? Does it have some sort of diagnostic utility that can tell me whats wrong with the system?

I have 2GB of RAM... I seriously need to get this thing fixed- i hate waiting for a minute of two, just staring at the LED to go to sleep!

Oops - know you said that, just didn't know it was to do with safe sleep.

Onyx is a nifty utilty that (amongst other things) optimises your system - it's excellent and well worth downloading (for free!). When my machine is playing up a bit, Onyx often does the trick. To be honest, I don't know if it would help your situation, but it can't hurt and it's a good excuse to install an excellent tool.
