MBP to TV output?

hey y'all, i'm sorry to bother everyone but i just got back from overseas and my cousin gave me some burned dvds to watch. They don't work on my dvd player in the living room, but they work on my macbook pro. Is there anyway I can hook my mbp up to my tv to watch it? I see three plug ins on the tv (white, yellow, red) and something called an s-video one. I am actually not near an apple store (closet one is about 200 miles away) and was wondering how if i could get this to work... Any input would be appreciated! :D
 
you can go to the closest best buy and get the little adpator for it i think its 20 bucks you will also need either a composite video cable or an s-video cable.. your sound will still come out of your mbp though...
 
I've been using the svideo adapter with my PB12" but just got a MBP SR. I need to buy an adapter to hook it up to my Sony HDTV (lcd projection). Is it worth it to get a dvi to hdmi cable or should I just buy the apple dvi to svideo/composite converter? Will I notice any real difference in quality?

I thought the SR MBP came with a dvi to video adapter. Why would you need to buy one?

I must be confused.

As previously stated, DVI-VGA only. The older PowerBook G4s also had S-Video out with an S-Video to Composite adapter.

What I find most annoying is that the audio out and video out aren't that close by. I have many cables, but would prefer to use a single S-Video+2 RCA or 3 RCA cable. As it stands, I have to use a single cable for video and a separate for audio. If the sockets were next to each other, one cable, (plus an adapter for the audio), would serve the job.
 
How can I connect my MBP to an external monitor in HD? I have a normal DVI to HDMI cable, and it works great for connecting my desktop to my lcd screen, but the dvi port on my MBP will not fit my cable as the port has 4 extra prongs on the far right side that neither my dvi to hdmi cable, desktop's dvi port, or my tv's dvi port have. I am a bit confused. It isn't a DVI mini port, but it isn't a normal one either.... I have tried using the supplied cable that connects my MBP to the VGA port on my tv, but am very unhappy with the quality, and would much prefer an HD cable if there is one.

The MBP DVI port supports all flavors of DVI, are you saying that the DVI end of the cable doesn't physically fit, or it just doesnt work when you use the cable? The 4 extra pins on the right side are the analog connectors (standard VGA signals) a DVI to HDMI cable is purely digital because HDMI does not have an analog option. So most DVI to HDMI cables probably will not have the 4 extra pins on that side, unless they're just using a universal connector end but not hooking up those wires. I have such a cable that I use to hook up my MBP to my HD Sony rear projection TV and it works great. My Mac even knows it's a Sony TV and gives me all the HD resolutions in the Monitors control panel. You also mention that your tv has a DVI connector without the 4 pins, so you could try just a straight DVI-D cable between your MBP and tv, that should work too.
 
Thank you for the reply. In response to your first question, my cable does not physically fit on my MBP's port, as my cable just has a horizontal line in the "3rd section" of the dvi connector, whereas the actually port has the horizontal line and 2 pins above and below it, which will not allow the cable to connect. Every other device I have that uses a DVI cable has the port without the additional 4 pins, so I dont know why the MBP is any different. You kinda lost me on the rest. If you could dumb it down for me a little more... Also, where would I buy a cable that would fit my MBP? All best buy and circuit city have are the DVI cables I have, without the 4 pins.

Take a look at monoprice.com. They have a lot of dvi to hdmi cables.
