MBP Upgrade WWDC OR SOONER

I think it will be at WWDC.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I'm looking to buy my first mac and I'm wondering if i buy MBP before Leopard is release, do I get the option of keeping all of my old programs like parallel and Office in Tiger or will it force me to start afresh?

How easy would it be to upgrade from tiger to leopard cos I think it's silly to wait till Oct just so that leopard comes pre-loaded with the system.

There is absolutely no obligation to update to Leopard, you can stick with Tiger as long as you want. As more new apps are released/updated you might get limited functionality (like the iLife apps do with 10.3) or some software might require Leopard and won't run on tiger at all.

Well, if you buy the leopard upgrade, you will have the choice of a fresh install which would wipe your computer clean, or you can just upgrade your OS leaving all files, folders and programs in tact.

And about those iMacs, don't they sell macs at WWDC? not to be pessemistic or anything but just because they are unloading iMacs it doesnt necessarily mean anything significant. (Although I hope so!)
 
I'm trying to decide if I should buy my Macbook Pro now or not because I really need it by next week. I think I will buy it next Wedneday therfore if the new MBP comes out at WWDC I can exchange mine during the 14 day period.. what do you guys think
 
If you need it, buy it. Just remember, if you open the box, you've got to pay a 10% restocking fee, period.

And if you buy it online from the Apple Store and get any bto options (extra ram, etc), it's not returnable period.

if your not in a hurry, just wait for 3 more weeks till wwdc.

so WWDC is in 3 weeks?
and some people think the new MBP might be released when? tuesday?

i'm going to be getting a 2.33GHz MBP soon but I need it by July, so should I wait for the new ones to come out? Will they be higher in price or will they just take over for the ones they have on the site right now?

price is unlikely to increase dramatically , £50-£75 at the most i would guess (but you will get your moneys worth), oh and uk price will not go up as they are adjusting to suit the exchange rate as we saw with shuffle and MB, but they may include some BTO options that will jack up price, like blu-ray,mebe GPRS or something

New versions also mean that the current ones get cheaper on the refurb :)

Sometimes, after a new release, people get brand new machines labelled as refurb :)
 
Timing?

Does anyone know how timing tends to work for announcements at WWDC? Thing is, I leave the country on the 16th of June and want a MacBook Pro before I leave. So if they announce on the 11th and the new computers are in stores that day or the day after, then I'm good, but if I have to wait even a week then it's no good.

So just wondering if there is a "typical" time span. From what I remember it seems they often have things right away but I don't know how good my memory is. :)

(And no, I can't buy one where I'm going; it's a third-world country where prices tend to be 150% or double for apple products)

If the new MBP models are like the new MB models (no change or minor change) then I will be getting refurb w/o a doubt. I will wait and see ;)

Eiter way, I'm getting a MBP in a few weeks! :D Out w/ the old homemade desktop and out w/ the MacBook! :eek:
