Hello!
Long time lurker (thanks for ALL the info!), first post;
We're about to undertake a family project that involves capturing screenshot stills from old home movies on dvd. We've been using our 'old' Mac Pismo laptop running 10.2 with VLC Player 0.8.4 and Snapz Pro 2.0.2, and have had rather poor results so far.
When we're lucky, we can capture a still frame without a lot of sawtooth shaped 'jaggies' affecting the picture quality. (The edges of peoples faces are not smooth, they exhibit a distinct sawtooth look.) We understand that the sawtooth effect is caused by the Pismo's screen refresh-or-scan rate being too slow to produce a full rescan when the movie is paused.
We're due to upgrade to a new MBP soon.
Questions being:
A- Will the current MBP, with its leap in processing ability over our Pismo, be able to give us a higher quality screen shot when our movies are paused?
B- Given that all we have to go on is speculation over what upgrades are to come, will we need to wait, or is the current version capable of producing the quality we need?
Thanks for all the time and effort you folks put into keeping us up-to-date!!
