umm... What the hell is actually being made that supports this slot... I stil haven't seen one Sound Card/Audio interface that utilizes that slot so far.....

Whats up Apple? Did you guys jump onto this way too soon or what?

I wish someone would put out something like the Indigo DJ PCMCIA card. That thing is nice and I really miss having something like that on my MBP. I don't want to schlep a big box be it USB or firewire to fulfill the same minimal purpose.

I will say that there are a number of PC manufacturers with express 3/4 slots, so it's not just apple. I don't recall if it took this long for the PCMCIA slots to become more ubiquitous and with more options.

Then again, I bought a Handspring for the springboard, but never used any.

This would certainly be useful. I found it through Macworld.com

http://www.sonnettech.com/product/memorycardreaderwritere34.html

This handy device works with the most popular memory card formats, including Memory Stick™, MMC (Multimedia Card), SD (Secure Digital), XD-Picture Card™, and all their variations—wide compatibility enables you to work with memory cards used in devices such as digital cameras, cell phones, MP3 players, digital picture frames, and more!

The card reader would definitely be handy--I miss having the integrated reader that was in my windows laptop. There are a few goodies for the slot as noted by folks here, but like the OP, I wish there were an audio interface that used the express card slot.

+1 for the card reader. Mine seems around 10x faster than transferring my pics from the camera vs. USB 2.0

That is for ExpressCard 54, not 34.

Thanks - I had not realized that there are many kinds of expresscard slots. That sucks and makes MBPs a notch less useful to me. I shall then hold on to my PPC PB until they come up with expresscard 1154 or something like that, which hopefully will be a while.

If you care enough to get a sound card, you probably would want something with RCA and optical output, not mini-jack output. This would mean an external sound card. I use an external sound card. Works on ALL computers.
