So a friend wants a MBP, needs it now. Doesn't want to wait for Ivy Bridge, nor cares.

Any reason not to get the February 2011 17" Base model vs. the October 2011:

February 2011 ($1814.38 + 2 Day Shipping) http://www.macmall.com/p/product~dp...169F8D6E9?emOmni=null&source=APPINSDRMWB29995

October 2011 ($2117.15 + $41.98 eBay Bucks = 2075.17)

2.2 GHz vs. 2.4 GHz and 6750M vs. 6770M. Besides one being deemed Early or Late 2011 MacBook Pro, any other differences? Is it worth the $260 difference for the newer one?

One other thing, pretend it's not from eBay. Then voice your opinions. Any other significant deals anyone knows about for a 17 inch? Say 2.3 GHz or 2.5 GHz?

I think you've covered the hardware differences. The issue I see is that the one from ebay may have warranty issues. Is the seller an authorized Apple reseller?

No, but I've bought new and sealed MBPs from the past and have had zero issues with the warranty.

Its still $300 - since you would still have ebay bucks - get a case or upgrade RAM.

I personally would get the FEB - also you get $100 restaurant card if you call in your order to MacMall.

MacMall has good history also - incase something goes wrong.

True true, a good return policy. But for the Restaurant.com card, you have to call and you'd lose the 3% AppleInsider discount.

Ask for them to honor the AppleInsider discount - If they have an sense that will honor it.

I ordered from them last week and when I saw a price difference a few hours later I tried getting a price difference from them. I did the AppleInsider route BUT they wouldn't honor the AI discount because there wasn't a code to that discount. So they said that I would have to refuse the shipment when it came to the door and then reorder online again. The difference was around $240 and they said that the most they can give me was $180 back and plus the $100 Restaurant.com card. They kept giving me the work around and waiting for a manager so I said I'll just take what they were giving me so it didn't keep going.

That's too bad - there is a reason I purchase everything I can from Amazon.
