I am interested in getting a MCE Optibay for my 15" Macbook Pro. Do anyone have any experience with them? Thanks.

I was just about to start a similar thread. There are no reviews I can find anywhere on the web. I talked with one of their techs, though, and he thought that was just because they had really just started shipping. Maybe in the coming weeks.

Assuming it works, however, the most important information he was able to give me was that it's pretty straightforward to replace the HD in the optibay, making it much more cost-effective to buy the smallest one and replace it with a 160 gb HD yourself or some such, if you really wanted the most storage for the cheapest price.

Anyone actually have one of these or have any real experience?

I wish so much there was a hot swap function for these. It's too bad the MBP is sealed all around, because 95% of the time I dont need my CD drive, but when I do I can't do without it.

And you can't use an external CD drive for that 5% of the time? Yours sounds like the actual perfect case for this setup. If you've got a 17", they actually give you an enclosure to stick your SD in for use externally. If you've got the 15" MBP (which I do), their enclosure won't work, but they offer to sell you one for $100. You could probably put one together yourself for less, but probably not much less.

But yes, if these things were hot swappable, that'd be totally ideal. Although, if they were hot swappable, I'd really be hoping you could jack a second battery in there instead of either a HD or a SD.
