Hello,
I am new in the forums. I hope I am allowed to post this.
I am trying to buy a Macbook Pro 16 Inch 2019 model with a seller I found online. The price and laptop is really in good condition. I checked most of the elements of the laptop, sounds, keyboards, mic, display etc. and they all look okay. After checking everything, I reset the device to factory setting and after the contents were erased, I got a message saying Company ABC (I am not typing real name) can control this Macbook remotely. The MDM and DEP enrollment is set to no. I am attaching the picture. What is wrong here? I thought if the MDM and DEP enrollment is off, the device is no longer associated with the company and remote control is not possible? I am attaching the MDM and DEP check image.
Thank you everyone.

Do a chargeback/go through the marketplace first, you were sold a stolen laptop. Or the last owner was super lazy.

You can always try contacting said company if it's unique enough to identify it.

The only way to remove DEP is for the owner to go into Apple Business Portal and release it. You wouldn't see that message if it hadn't pulled down a profile at all. That profile item shouldn't survive a wipe and it comes from MDM, not the Business Portal.

Okay. As I am non tech guy, I did general research online and tried to check the things that were said like checking MDM, DEP, iCloud lock, Device Location etc. I checked all those and it was all positive.
I tried to contact the agency that was shown in the remote management screen and they said this can be because they sell the used devices. I sent the computer details to them and they might do a check and update me.
I believe Apple should have some sort of mechanism to check such issues.
It's hard to do a chargeback as the guy said he also got it from another person so he doesn't know about it.
I am expecting a replied from the previous owner; the Company managing remotely.
Thank you for the reply.

This does sound like it is in the DEP as that would survive a factory wipe. It’s linked to the serial registered with Apple so it reactivates each time it contacts Apple servers.
Not sure why it says not enrolled, although do vaguely recall something where devices were added to DEP, but not ‘active’. Been a while since I used it.
Possible the company removed from their MDM and forgot about the DEP part.
