mds-crash-state??? Translation please

I have this in my finder window If I delete the mds-crash-state, it shows up again the next day? One of the times I deleted it, my system crashed? What the heck is it?

That file is apparently a crashlog left by Spotlight if it goes down, but it's not supposed to be where you're seeing it. This page has more details (scroll down a bit), and a suggested fix that may or may not work for you:

MDS-crash-state

I've been finding that an MDS-crash-state file mysteriously appears at the top level of the Finder, too, and wondered what it was. I don't remember Spotlight malfunctioning, however, but perhaps some of the problems aren't obvious.

I get the file being created after most restarts. I wonder if I should worry/
