I've always loved apple computers, never had anything else since i was a little kid. My roommate has a macbook and has had it fixed for free under applecare many times, and thus i've trusted and respected apple and applecare until recently. my computer (macbook pro) started having issues about a month and a half ago. symptoms were shutting down applications without any warning and without a notice afterwards, finder freezing and restarting, a grey screen coming down and telling me to restart. i would hold down the power button, and the computer would shut down. if i tried to turn it back on within a day it would beep three times and stay at the blue screen and never turn back on. i took it to the apple store near me. they were very nice and the guy said it was problem with the ram chip. he moved the chip to the other slot, and said to come back if i was still having problems... i continued to have problems.
over thanksgiving break my dad took it to the apple store near him. they said there's no way it could be a ram chip problem. they erased my hard drive. that didn't seem to be the problem (?! they erased all of my music and papers and photos!! after just recently erasing the harddrive on my home computer, before i had time to back everything up again!). so they sent it out to apple-land, and the people i've been speaking to on the phone are insistent that i spilled liquid on it, and that is the problem. i know that i did not spill liquid on the machine. there are a couple of ink splatters on the outside of the machine, as i am an art student, and they were there LONG before it started having problems. they don't want to fix it under applecare because of this. they want to charge me $1500 to replace the entire inside of the machine.
so my question is: do the initial problems that i listed sound at all like a liquid spill? do they sound at all like a ram chip problem? i never had problems with the keyboard, and NEVER spilled liquid on my computer. i don't know how to prove that's true to the apple people. my dad thinks they pissed on it in the store.
thanks for any help.
